Improve Your Morning Routine in 5 Easy Steps!

I honestly couldn’t remember the last time I didn’t feel like I was in a mad rush to the office. The only moment I could actually catch my breath was after sitting down at my desk for the day. My mornings? A blur of snoozing the alarm for as long as humanly possible, slipping into my trusty (and admittedly repeated) outfit, and rushing to catch the bus so I’d have time to grab a quick breakfast before diving into work.

It got to the point where I was so tired of that constant frenzy that I finally decided enough was enough. I didn’t want to start my day in a panic anymore. So, I changed things up—and ever since, I’ve been feeling more refreshed, more relaxed, and way more ready to take on the day.

Morning Workouts
For most of my life, I was a morning person. Back in the day, I’d be up at 7am on weekends, eating my Lucky Charms while everyone else was still snoozing until noon. Then came college, and somehow, I became a night owl—and that transformation stuck. Fast forward to post-graduation, and every morning I dreaded my alarm. I could never seem to feel truly rested. But here’s the twist—I’d never thought I’d be the type to wake up at 5am for a yoga class, but hey, life is full of surprises!

Of course, nothing happens overnight. Last year, I started working out after work, but this year I wanted to challenge myself. I aimed for just one morning workout, just to see what it felt like. And I have to say, I’m so glad I did! Now, I feel energized and at peace in the mornings, with plenty of time to grab a coffee or run errands before the workday begins. Honestly, moving through my day with this kind of calm and intention is a total game changer.

Wake Up 30 Minutes Earlier
If getting up for a morning workout feels like a stretch (no judgment here, I’ve been there!), start by waking up just 30 minutes earlier. For me, this was a game changer. For those of us who are serial snooze-button-hitters (guilty!), this small change gave me enough time to prep for the day without feeling frantic. Suddenly, I wasn’t leaving the house in a rush, forgetting my work keys, or scrambling for something to wear.

Plan the Night Before
This goes hand-in-hand with both of the previous tips. I started prepping the night before—getting my yoga bag ready, laying out my workout clothes, making sure my keys and wallet were in place, and packing any work essentials (like makeup if I have plans after work). This made my mornings 100x easier. No more frantic searches for things in the dark or trying to put together an outfit when I know the office is full of important meetings. The less I have to think about in the morning, the better!

Wake Up to Music
I’m not a fan of the loud, jarring alarms that shock you awake. Growing up, I was often woken up by loud relatives (and sometimes still am when I stay with family), and let’s just say that’s not the vibe I want to start my day with. Instead, I recommend waking up to some energizing music or a slow-building melody. Not only will it set a positive tone for your day, but it’ll gently ease you out of sleep instead of jolting you awake.

Shower at Night
Taking a shower at night has a ton of benefits that I didn’t realize until I made the switch. Not only does it help you relax and unwind, but it also regulates blood pressure, reduces tension, improves sleep, and can even help reduce breakouts. Plus, it saves you time in the morning—because who wants to waste precious minutes in the shower when you could be doing something else? You’d be surprised at how refreshing a shower before bed can be.

By making these small adjustments, I’ve turned my mornings from a chaotic rush into a peaceful, productive start to the day. It’s amazing how much a little planning and self-care can completely change the way you move through your routine. Try it—you might just find that the extra time you carve out for yourself in the morning makes all the difference.
