How to Travel Solo
I know what you're thinking—solo travel? The idea of heading out alone can definitely stir up some anxiety. Trust me, I get it. But let me tell you, traveling solo is one of those experiences everyone should try at least once. Sure, it can feel a little chaotic and even stressful planning trips with a large group of friends. But the freedom of exploring on your own? It’s something you can't replicate.
One summer, I took the plunge and traveled solo to the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas. At the time, I was feeling stuck, craving a change of scenery, and frankly, something fun. My routine had become so predictable that life felt like it was revolving around just working, eating, and sleeping—rinse and repeat.
I’d never traveled alone before, but pushing myself out of my comfort zone gave me a newfound confidence and reignited a sense of adventure I thought I had lost. That weekend was magical. I’ll always be grateful for the lessons, the friends I made, and the freedom that solo journey gave me.
But I know a lot of people feel hesitant about the idea of going solo, so I wanted to share some tips that helped me along the way. If you're feeling stuck or need a mental break from your usual routine, solo travel could be the perfect way to push yourself—and your comfort zone.
MAKE CONNECTIONS
Before you head off, reach out to people in your circle who might have advice or have traveled to your destination before. College friends, acquaintances—sometimes a trusted recommendation can make all the difference. Maybe they'll know someone who can act as a local guide, tell you areas to avoid, or even offer a place to stay. It never hurts to ask!
SAFETY FIRST
Safety was my top priority when I was traveling solo, especially as a woman. Be prepared for any scenario by having multiple transportation options and backup plans. Situations can change quickly, so having an extra public transport card or cash for a cab is a lifesaver. Familiarize yourself with the area before you settle in, and always know where the exits are. Keep your valuables secure—either in a safe or a hidden belt while you're out exploring. Trust your instincts!
PLANNING IS KEY
A little planning goes a long way. I like to have a rough itinerary of must-see events or popular attractions, but I always leave room for spontaneity. That way, if something catches your eye—like a local restaurant or shop—you have time to explore. Research beforehand, book inclusive deals if you can, and always have a few backup options in mind. Balance fun with downtime for those quiet moments when you need a break or want to meet locals.
Solo travel isn’t always easy, but it's definitely worth it. It’s a chance to reconnect with yourself, discover new places, and come back with a fresh perspective. If you’ve been on the fence about it, consider this your sign to take that trip—your future self will thank you. 🌍✨
